Akshay to receive highest honor in martial arts


The Khiladi No. 1 of Bollywood Akshay Kumar will be honored with ‘Katana’ for his longtime association with the marital arts. It is considered as the highest honor amongst the Japanese. It is one of the Japanese traditions which the Samurai practices. Akshay’s long time association with the art has led him to receive the prestigious honor. Akshay has always portrayed the art through his film effectively, keeping the tradition alive.
The ceremony is held in Mumbai today and our Khiladi Kumar will be honored by ‘Katana’ as well as a sixth degree Black Belt in Kuyukai Gojuryu Karate. The actor will receive the honor by the hands of Mehul Vora, the organiser of the first invitational National Open Karate Championship and Shihan Hirano Osamu, Grandmaster and founder of the Kuyukai International. The invitational National Open Karate Championship is first of its kind competition in India about martial arts. And Akshay has already promised to promote it.
It was unexpected for Akshay as he says, “It’s a privilege to be receiving this honour. Karate is a part of my soul and to be honoured with something as precious as a ‘Katana’ is something I hadn’t even dreamt of.”
However a Kuyukai International source adds, “Akshay has always portrayed martial arts in a good light. Many a times he has tried to incorporate martial stunts in his films as well, keeping the tradition alive.”
